:: Our History

In July 1974 The Apostolic Church of Sri Lanka was established in Sri Lanka under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Evansely Wickramaratne and Sister Janet Wickramaratne. This church ministry was took forward and developed in Sri Lanka with mutual agreement with The Apostolic Church in UK on spiritual and administrative matters.

Year 1976, Pastor Samuel Evansely Wickramaratne was ordained as an Apostle to the Body of Christ in Sri Lanka by The Apostolic Church in UK at Penegrose.

Before inception of Apostolic Church Ministry in Sri Lanka and joining with The Apostolic Church in UK, believers in Moratuwa, Wellawattha, Mattakkuliya were already gathering in their respective gathering churches / places and worshiped God under stewardship of Sister Janet Wickramaratne and Pastor Samuel Wickramaratne. In fact these groups of believers including Pastor Samuel and Sister Janet and some of full time ministers were earlier belonged to one of main Pentecostal Missions in Sri Lanka and split from that church in 1961 as a result of policy matters which they could not agree with them. There after functioned as a separate ministry for about 13 years (1961-1974). As stated above this same group joined with The Apostolic Church in UK in 1974. After accomplishing God's purpose on earth, Sister Janet Wickramaratne was called to eternity on 1984. Pastor Samuel Wickramaratne actively served in the ministry of God until 2002. Subsequently The Apostolic Church in UK anointed the new leadership to the Apostolic Church in Sri Lanka.

Among the other Apostolic local churches in the island, Moratuwa local church was grown much faster in spiritually and numbers from 1995 onwards when Pastor K. Jagath Stanley Fonseka took over the leadership of the Moratuwa local church. He had been anointed as a pastor to the church by Pastor Samuel Wickramaratne with Pastor Ken Reez, Pastor Erick Holie and also subsequently anointed as the Prophet to the Sri Lankan Church by the UK Apostolic Church.

During his tenure number of cluster churches were started in many areas. Under the leadership of Pastor Jagath several open air crusades were held called "Living Voice of Life". Also under his leadership new church worshiping building was put up in 2002 after demolishing the much old worshiping hall at Moratuwa Local church.

Whilst the church was brought forward with clear vision by the guidance of Holy Spirit in all areas, disagreement on spiritual vision and administrative maters were apparent day by day with higher authority of the church.

In the mean time at the age of 84, Pastor Samuel Wickramaratne was called to eternity on the day of Good Friday in 2006.

As a result of these on going disagreements, Pastor K. Jagath Fonseka came out from the Apostolic Church in Sri Lanka. At the same time two elders of the Moratuwa local church Brother Anil Mendis and Brother Jagath Kapila Fernando who too had been anointed as Elders to the local church by Pastor Samuel Wickramaratne, too came out from said church due to the disagreement with church leadership on same policy maters, principles and differences in spiritual vision.

After leaving Apostolic Church of Sri Lanka, said three had an idea of joining or take part in ministry on individual basis with a church who is having a similar vision. However it was clearly felt that the Holy Spirit is prompting these three together to start a new church focusing the said vision and adhering with clear principles and policies which a true and a holy church should exhibit in the body of Christ.

After having serious thoughts and several lengthy discussions on all aspects such as the foundation, structure, governing policies, expanding the vision and mission of the church, on 24th of May 2006, around 12 midnight, being the founders of the church, Pastor Jagath Fonseka, Bro. Anil Mendis , Bro. Jagath Fernando, Sister Neluka and Sister Bhagya (spouses of Bro. Anil's & Bro. Jagath's respectively) "Living Voice of Life The Apostolic Church Of Moratuwa" was started at the residence of Elder - Jagath Kapila Fernando.

Just after, a large number of believers too came out from Apostolic Church of Sri Lanka - Moratuwa local church and joined this new church as they clearly felt the importance of a true shepherd for their spiritual lives.

At present, "Living Voice of Life The Apostolic Church of Moratuwa" is increasing day by day in spiritually and in numbers with the guidance of Holy Spirit and registered address of the church as No.94, Blasius Road, Indebedda Moratuwa.

As prime objectives; preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and prepare believers of the church as "The Bride" to meet Jesus Christ in his Second Coming have become main focus of the church.
